Finding shows that fit specific preferences can be accomplished through social media or word of mouth. After all, many will choose new entertainment because friends or family enjoy it; however, it may only be enjoyable to some. Also, making decisions without guidance can be difficult for indecisive individuals. There are many apps today that will recommend entertainment by using your personal preference. A platform that I have just recently come across is Likewise. 

Likewise App

Likewise users can find recommendations for TV shows, movies, podcasts, books, and more. According to Likewise: 

"Likewise is the only cross-platform solution that provides highly personalized recommendations based on each user's unique tastes and preferences, as well as those of their friends, family, and other members of their community." 

When downloading the app, Likewise will ask you to select your favorites from each category. Once the app has an idea of your interests, you can look through daily recommendations. For example, under "TV & Movies," you can swipe through different suggestions. As you swipe, indicate if you have seen the show, save it, share it, expand the recommendation to watch the trailer, or select it to receive more information. If you indicate that you have seen the show before, you can choose whether you disliked or liked it so that the app can add the information to your preferences.

When you want more information about the show, you will find details regarding the description and status of the show and where to watch it. Users can also scroll through comments and participate in discussions.

Not only does Likewise recommend entertainment, but it also doubles as a social media platform. Users can create a profile and add friends with similar interests. They can also post to the "community" to receive recommendations from other users. If you are looking for a specific genre, you can search through hashtags or lists to find what you are looking for.  

Likewise TV

Users can also download Likewise on their television through Apple TV, Fire TV, and Android TV. The platform will save your lists from the app directly to your television. Users can connect their streaming services for easy access through the app. Likewise TV will show you what is trending, new, and in theaters. Users can also stream movies for free. 

Social Media and Engagement 

I discovered Likewise through their social media advertisement and influencer engagement. The app uses social media to engage users and create interest in recommendations and new releases. For example, Likewise's Instagram advertises live events that will take place through the app. These events showcase the latest releases while allowing readers to learn more from debut or recognizable authors. If you miss watching the event live, you can find it on Likewise's Youtube after the event ends. Users can also follow Likewise on Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn.

Another way Likewise engages with users is through its blog and newsletters. The blog posts recommendations such as 14 Underrated TV Shows You Missed in 2022 or Shows and Movies Everyone Will Be Talking About This Week. Readers can also find Q&A posts and Likewise's picks of the week. Based on the number of blog posts, the blog has been up briefly; however, this is a great way to find recommendations and learn more about what Likewise offers users. 

Likewise has also been discussed in major publications such as Rolling Stone, Forbes, CNBC, Business Insider, CNET, GeekWire, and Refinery29. When the app was launched in 2018, Business Insider discussed the app. The article highlights the support Bill Gates expressed for the app on Twitter.

Although Gates was named as an investor and gave input during the app's development, it is unclear to what extent. On the app, you can find Gates' list of favorite entertainment through his profile. Users can also see lists from Barack Obama, The Guardian, other publications, and more. 

Reviews

According to Likewise's website, the app is quite popular: 

Despite what the website says, unbiased sources show mixed reviews regarding the app's popularity. For example, reviews on Facebook or the App store show varied reviews. Also, despite high ratings, users will claim the app is a "hit or miss" or only "fun for a while." There are many reviews found on Youtube about Likewise. At first glance, many reviews seem negative; however, some titles are structured as 'clickbait' and would have to be viewed to receive an honest review.   

Conclusion 

I have enjoyed using Likewise to find similar movies, TV shows, and books that I have seen before. Also, it is helpful to see what others will recommend based on your preferences. I am indecisive and will spend more time deciding on a movie than watching the film itself. So, apps such as Likewise are helpful when making decisions. Also, Likewise is an excellent platform for people with similar tastes in entertainment to connect and discuss their favorite moments of their podcast, show, or book. Though there are mixed reviews regarding Likewise, the app caters to all audiences and will successfully find your next favorite program, book, or podcast.
